MinnesotaCare members must verify that they continue to meet the program’s eligibility requirements at the end of each year to continue their health care coverage the next year. The Department of Human Services wants to ensure you have a smooth renewal process. These frequently asked renewal questions and answers will help you complete the renewal process.
You have 45 days from the date printed on your notice to return your renewal form. You could lose your health care coverage for one or more months if you return your form after the 45 days. If we receive your renewal form after 45 days from the date on the notice, you may have a gap in health care coverage if you remain eligible for the program.
No, you must return the paper renewal form by mail, fax or drop box. New this year, there is a 24-hour, locked drop box outside of the main entrance of the Elmer L. Andersen building located at 540 Cedar Street, St. Paul, MN, 55155. Documents that are faxed or dropped off by 5:00 p.m. on a business day are marked as received on that day.

There are a few possible reasons a person who just completed an application or renewal would need to complete a renewal form now:
You qualify for a health care program handled by MNsure. Call MNsure to enroll in the plans managed by them at 855-366-7873 or 651-539-2099.

Your renewal is late and your MinnesotaCare coverage will close on December 31. You must return your renewal form as soon as possible if you want health care coverage after December 31. Yes, MinnesotaCare members that pay a premium need to contiue to pay their premium through the renewal process.
The premium notice you get in November and December may show a premium amount of “unknown” instead of a dollar amount for January. This means that MinnesotaCare has not processed or received your renewal form; or more information is needed to process your renewal. You must renew your eligibility or it will end December 31. The renewal will determine ongoing eligibility and premium amount.
If you have not returned your renewal form to MinnesotaCare Operations, review it completely, make any necessary updates, sign it and return it to MinnesotaCare Operations.
If you have already returned your renewal form to MinnesotaCare Operations, follow the instructions on future notices. We either have not processed your form yet, or we need more information to process it. We will send you a notice with more information after we review your renewal form.
