ASD Strategies in Action online training FAQ

The Autism Certification Center’s ASD Strategies in Action is an innovative, online video-based training program. ASD Strategies in Action provides practical tools and strategies for people who interact with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The program uses real-life examples in a variety of settings.

ASD Strategies in Action is meant for anyone in our community. This program gives families and service providers tools to ensure they are equipped to care for, support, educate, employ or work with people with ASD effectively from early childhood to young adulthood. The program organizes training courses by age and strategy to allow easy access to the information that is most relevant to the user. 

ASD Strategies in Action is also a training requirement for enrolled Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention (EIDBI) Level III providers. Minnesota requires Level III providers to take at least one of the 10.5-hour courses. It is up to you and/or your employer to determine if it is appropriate for you to take the additional courses available. You are also able to access the additional courses on your own time if you are interested.

You may request training access by emailing the Minnesota Department of Human Services Autism team.

We encourage you to use your personal email. That way, you can still print your training certificates later, even if you should leave your current employer.

There are four training courses to complete. If you complete them successfully, you may download a certificate for the following courses: 

1.5 clock hours for the Many Faces of Autism course (required pre-requisite)

10.5 clock hours for Toddler and Preschool course

• Supporting your children on the autism spectrum
• Tell me, show me, share with me
• Involved and engaged
• Guiding young children toward independence

• What’s next? Preparing for upcoming activities
• Recognizing and managing emotions
• Who, what, when, where, why?

10.5 clock hours for School Age course

• Supporting students on the spectrum
• A strategy to help skills and behaviors occur again
• Cashing it in and putting it all together
• Guiding toward independence
• What’s next? Preparing for upcoming activities
• Write it out, draw it out
• Recognizing and managing emotions
• Overcoming obstacles to learning
• Who, what, when, where, why?

10.5 clock hours for Transition Age course

• Supporting young adults on the autism spectrum
• A strategy to help skills and behaviors occur again
• Guiding young adults toward independence
• What’s next? Preparing for upcoming activities
• Write it out, draw it out
• Recognizing and managing emotions
• Overcoming obstacles to learning
• Who, what, when, where, why? 

Completion of these online courses fulfills the Minnesota Department of Human Services’ Autism 101 training requirement for Level III providers of the EIDBI Benefit.

Once you have created your account, the navigation bar acts as your home page. You will find all of the courses available to you in the dashboard. The dashboard also allows you to track course progress and download reflection questions, course notes and progress reports. When you have completed a course, you may return to the navigation bar to print your course certificate, which serves as documentation of your successful completion. At any time, you may return to the navigation bar at the top of the help page on the Autism Certification Center website. Please review the instructions page for further information. Yes, you may log out and return to the online courses as many times as you like. You may stop and start the video at any point. You may always visit the dashboard to monitor your progress and to resume the training where you leave off. Please note, if you stop before completing a chapter, the video will restart at the beginning of that chapter when you return.

The courses may be completed at your own pace during your subscription period. From the date you registered successfully, you have one year to complete the courses. You will receive reminder emails shortly before the course expires. 

DHS encourages Level III providers to complete the training requirements during their first six months of employment or within the first six months of EIDBI individual enrollment. 

Please also note that the site will not log you out automatically. We encourage you to log out after each session, especially if you are using a public computer.

Yes, you will be able to continue from where you left off, as long as you use the same login credentials for your account. If you are not able to use your original login, email the ACC technical support team or the DHS Autism team.

You may log in with the email address you used to sign up for the training courses. The ACC considers your email address and your user name as the same. If you are not able to use your original login credentials, email the ACC technical support team or the DHS Autism team.

You need to download the Minnesota certificate or the appropriate one that works for your purpose. Instructions for selecting the correct certificate and template instructions can also be found in the State of Minnesota ASD Strategies Instructions Powerpoint presentation. If you would like a copy of the presentation, email the DHS Autism team.

ASD Strategies in Action is mobile-friendly and accessible anywhere, anytime using your desktop, laptop, tablet or phone. When using a desktop or laptop computer with an Internet connection, the faster the connection the better. 

The online courses work best using the Firefox, Explorer/Edge or Google Chrome web browsers. Please do not use AOL or Safari. 

That’s it! Now, log in with your username and password and you’ll be off and running. If you encounter technical issues, we suggest that you refresh your browser, check your internet connection, switch to a different browser, clear your cookies and restart your computer.

If you continue to have issues, contact the local training coordinator from your organization or email the DHS Autism team. If you do not know who the local training coordinator from your organization is and you continue to have issues, you may email tech support. Please include as much detail as possible in your email about your issue, including screenshots. Response times are fastest between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Support requests outside of those times may receive a delayed response.

When you are on the login page, click on the Forgot your Password link and provide the email you used to register. You will receive an email with a link to reset your password. If you are still having issues and forgot your username/email, contact tech support.
