Income assistance programs provide a safety net for adults who have low incomes and need help covering basic costs like housing.

There are two main programs for adults without children in their home. A single application is used for both programs. Your local county or tribal office will review your application and decide which, if any, program is available to you.

Minnesota Supplemental Aid program

Minnesota Supplemental Aid (MSA) is an income supplement for people who receive federal Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, or who could get SSI if their income was not above the SSI limit. The monthly benefit may also cover special needs payments for people who qualify. Special needs payments may be provided for medically prescribed diets, guardian or conservator fees, some home repairs or replacement of household furniture and appliances, and some high housing costs.

MSA Housing Assistance also may be available for qualifying MSA recipients, adding $392 more to the MSA benefit to help pay for high housing costs.
