PCA Steps for Success workshop
The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is in the process of transitioning from personal care assistance (PCA) to Community First Services and Supports (CFSS). During this transition time,
CFSS was implemented Oct. 1, 2024. All Steps for Success workshops going forward will certify providers for the CFSS program. This page will no longer be used to register for PCA Steps for Success workshops. Go to CFSS Steps for Success workshop to register for this training.
Steps for Success is a three-day workshop offered to PCA and CFSS agency staff to meet the PCA/CFSS provider agency training requirements when enrolling or maintaining enrollment with Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP). MHCP provides these training sessions to agency staff via webinar.
Information for owners and managers
Steps for Success is required for the following individuals of non-Medicare-certified PCA and CFSS provider organizations:
- Owners (directly or indirectly involved in the day-to-day operations of the PCA business)
- Managing employees (directly or indirectly involved in the day-to-day operations of the PCA business)
Information for Qualified Professionals
Qualified professionals must meet the requirements on the PCA qualified professional criteria webpage for employment at a PCA agency.
- If a qualified professional (QP) is not an owner or managing employee, the QP only needs to take the PCA qualified professional test to receive a certificate.
- If your QP will serve as a supervising professional in CFSS then the QP also should take the CFSS transition test for PCA agencies.
- QPs can also manage employees or be owners of the agency. These QPs must be disclosed on the Disclosure of Ownership and Control Interest of an Entity (DHS-5259) (PDF) during enrollment.
- If a QP is an owner or managing employee, the QP needs to take the PCA qualified professional test and must also register to attend the CFSS Steps for Success Workshop.
