Behavioral health division Grants

The Behavioral Health Division (BHD) oversees Minnesota's mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment services that are paid for with state and federal funds. To support these services, BHD awards grants to counties, tribes, and nongovernmental providers. Behavioral health services include prevention, treatment, short-term and long-term care, as well as home and community-based services. BHD manages about 700 grants annually.

Supplemental funding for COVID-19 relief
The federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration approved Minnesota’s plans to spend more than $76 million in supplemental COVID-19 relief funding for behavioral health services. In addition to prevention and treatment efforts related to the COVID-19 pandemic, this supplemental funding will provide for programs that integrate services and promote more equitable health outcomes for all Minnesotans.
