Medicaid and MinnesotaCare basics
Medicaid
A state and federal program (called Medical Assistance in Minnesota) that provides health insurance that covers a broad array of health services for people, including families and children with low-incomes, older adults and people with disabilities.
MinnesotaCare
A state and federal program that provides a low-cost health insurance option to people who do not have access to affordable employer-sponsored health insurance and have higher income levels than those eligible for Medicaid. Minnesota is one of two states with this type of insurance coverage program, which is known as a Basic Health Program.
