DHS is building the capacity of community partners to respond to trauma and its impact on children. The division coordinates this effort to address child trauma issues with Minnesota’s grantee in the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA).
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a model of psychotherapy that effectively combines trauma-sensitive interventions with cognitive behavioral therapy. It is designed to address the needs of children with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or other significant behavioral problems related to traumatic life experiences. DHS is working collaboratively with Ambit Network to train mental health professionals across the state in the practice of TF-CBT.
