Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based comprehensive treatment delivered via five modalities: individual therapy, skills training, telephone coaching, team consultation and ancillary treatments. Telephone coaching is provided by a team of DBT-trained providers. DBT uses cognitive behavioral strategies and dialectic principles and DBT trained providers use a combination of clinical and rehabilitative interventions to deliver treatment. Empirical evidence supports DBT’s effectiveness for individuals who are suicidal, engaging in self-harm behaviors and/or diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
Effective April 1, 2011, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) were added the list of benefits covered by Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP) that promote a recovery-based system of care.
