A PDF is a file that will look the same on the screen and in print, regardless of what kind of computer or printer someone is using, and regardless of what software originally created it.
A current version of Adobe Reader is required to download and read PDF documents on the DHS website. Adobe Reader is typically installed as standard software on most computers but is also available as a free download at Adobe's website.
You must have a current version of Adobe Reader to view and print PDF files. If you have an earlier version of Adobe Reader, you may not be able to open, view or print PDFs correctly.
To see what version of Reader is installed, open Reader and go to Help About Adobe Reader. The version number will be displayed.
If you receive a message "Please wait..." or "Error opening PDF form" when opening a PDF in your browser, this means your browser is using a non-standard PDF viewer to display the PDF (Read more on Adobe's website). In order to display forms correctly, all PDFs must be opened using Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.
When printing PDF files from within your browser, use the print button at the left end of the special Adobe Acrobat tool bar, which appears immediately above the viewing window. You will then get a Print pop-up window, which will give you options that include printing the entire document or specific pages.
To save a file for later after it loads in your browser, select File Save from the menu bar. To save without viewing, right-click (Windows) or control-click (Macintosh) a link to the PDF and choose Save Target As from the pop-up menu.
