Application Information Session

Course Description:

The Department of Human Services Mental Health, Substance Use Disorder, Children’s Residential Facilities (MH/SUD/CRF) unit offers free information sessions for prospective applicants interested in applying for a DHS license or certificate for the following service types:

  • Substance Use Disorder Treatment Programs (MN Statutes, chapter 245G)
  • Detoxification Programs (MN Rules, chapter 9530)
  • Withdrawal Management Programs (MN Statutes, chapter 245F)
  • DHS licensed Children’s Residential Facilities excluding child foster care (MN Rules, chapter 2960)
  • Intensive Residential Treatment Services/Residential Crisis Stabilization (IRTS/RCS) (MN Statutes, chapter 245I)
  • Adult Residential Mental Health treatment facilities (Rule 36)
  • Certified Mental Health Clinics (MN Statutes, chapter 245I)

The sessions will be provided by licensors from the MH/SUD/CRF unit on a quarterly basis, and will provide an overview of the requirements to apply for a license, application process, and general information on policy writing. The purpose is for prospective applicants to understand why a license is needed, learn the application process, and increase ability to submit a complete application which meets all requirements. The sessions are designed to build on your understanding of the rules and statutes that govern licensing MH/SUD/CRF programs; however, they are not comprehensive information on all applicable regulations, and do not take the place of or supersede the actual language of the rules and statutes governing licensing MH/SUD/CRF programs. In addition, the information sessions do not include information for starting and operating a program: the information is not legal or business advice, is not advice on programming or quality improvement beyond licensing requirements, and will not cover how to obtain payment for MH/SUD/CRF services.

The information sessions are presented in an online format, and include participant interaction. Participants must have access to a computer or electronic device with an internet connection, preferably with two-way video and audio capability

Pre-requisites for the course:

The information sessions are designed for attendees who meet the following pre-requisites:

  • Prospective or current applicant for one or more of the above service types
  • General knowledge of requirements for the service type, including MN Statutes, chapter 245A

In addition, attendees may find it helpful to view the license application prior to the information session. Please make sure to select a license type in order to see the full application.
