Report anticipated exemptions or qualifying activities

Use the Renewal Lookup tool if you expect to meet an exemption or to report a qualifying activity

Beginning Jan. 1, 2027, federal law requires some people to meet new work requirements in order to keep health care coverage through Medical Assistance. They will need to meet the new requirements by either meeting an exemption or having completed a qualifying activity in a month since their last Medical Assistance renewal.

You can help us prepare for your 2027 renewal by telling us now whether you expect to qualify for an exemption to the new work requirements or you expect to complete a qualifying activity like working or volunteering. Let us know by using the Renewal Lookup Tool.

Sharing this information now is optional and will not affect your current Medical Assistance coverage, but may make your 2027 renewal process easier.

Be prepared to provide three of the following four items to confirm your identity when using the tool:

  • Case number
  • Member number
  • Last 4 digits of SSN
  • Date of birth

Use the tool’s help text to help you find your case number and member number. It shows examples of different notices and member ID cards.

Work requirements

Starting Jan. 1, 2027, some adults with Medical Assistance may need to meet new work reporting and community engagement requirements to get or keep coverage.

This change generally applies to adults ages 21 to 64 who do not have dependent children, are not pregnant, are not eligible for Medicare and do not qualify for Medical Assistance based on a disability. It does not apply to everyone. Many people may already meet the requirement or qualify for an exemption. The biggest risk is missing a notice, proof request or deadline. Someone could lose coverage even if they still qualify.
