Family Support Grant
The Family Support Grant (FSG) program provides state cash grants to families of children with certified disabilities. The goal is to prevent or delay out-of-home placement of children with disabilities and promote family health and social well-being by providing access to family-centered services and supports.
Eligibility
- Children who live in a licensed residential facility who would return to their family home if a grant were awarded.
- As of Oct. 1, 2019, families of children with a certified disability, under age 25, who live in their biological or adoptive home.
As of Jan. 1, 2025, families with an annual adjusted gross income of $130,807 or less are eligible for the FSG, except in cases where extreme hardship is demonstrated. Considerations may include size of the family, presence of a disability in other family members and substantial debt due to the child's disability.
Children who receive home and community-based support services under the Brain Injury, Community Alternative Care, Community Access for Disability Inclusion or Developmental Disabilities waivers are not eligible to receive FSG at the same time.
Children who receive a Consumer Support Grant or personal care assistance services are also ineligible to receive FSG at the same time.

FSG funds may be issued to families by counties in the form of cash, voucher or direct payment to a vendor. The amount of the grant is based on individual needs. Grants may not exceed $3,113.99 per calendar year for each eligible child. There is no limit to how many grants you may receive.
The grants offset the higher than average expenses directly related to a child's disability. It may not be used for purchases covered by other funding sources, such as private insurance and Medical Assistance.
Grants are also intended to support transition-related activities for families with dependents between the ages of 14 and 24.
