    Therapeutic Area - Asthma

    Indications

    Zyflo CR is a leukotriene synthesis inhibitor indicated for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma in adults and children 12 years of age and older.

    Precautions

    Cases of severe hepatic injury have been reported in patients taking zileuton immediate release tablets. These cases included death, life-threatening liver injury with recovery, symptomatic jaundice, hyperbilirubinemia and elevations of ALT>8 times upper limits of normal.

    Criteria

    • Patient has persistent asthma AND
    • Patient has a contraindication or intolerance to single agent inhaled corticosteroids (e.g., Asmanex, QVAR, Flovent HFA, Azmacort) AND
    • Patient has a contraindication or intolerance to either montelukast or zafirlukast AND
    • Prescriber is aware of the need for LFT monitoring
