Dental Access Improvement Project: Special Needs BasicCare (SNBC)

The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) Special Needs Purchasing Division is working with the Special Needs BasicCare (SNBC) health plans and the DHS Direct Care and Treatment community dental clinics (DCT-DC) to improve access to dental services for SNBC members. The SNBC Dental Access Improvement Project (PDF) began in early 2017 and will continue over the next three to five years. The focus of the project is on a series of dental interventions aimed at improving access to dental services for SNBC members. These include:

  • Dental case management
  • Special needs community dentist and staff mentoring program
  • Tele-dentistry demonstration
  • Expansion of dental service contracts
  • Provider education
  • Support of community dental treatment clinics

Over the course of the project, DHS will monitor annual performance measures in order to evaluate the success of the project.
