For Minnesota residents (individuals under 65 or families) applying for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare coverage or managing their account.
For eligibility workers at a county, Tribal or state agency who process applications, verify eligibility and manage cases.
For navigators in the community who help residents understand programs, complete applications and provide ongoing support.
Who’s eligible for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare?
Use this quick guide to see which program may fit your situation for using the online application. Your final eligibility will be based on your household size, income, age, pregnancy status and Minnesota residency:
- Both programs require you to live in Minnesota or plan to live in Minnesota.
- Both programs require you to be a U.S. citizen or qualified non-citizen to be eligible.

If you’re an adult (age 19-64) without Medicare
You may qualify for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare
- Lower income -> Medical Assistance (see income and asset limits above for amounts)
- No monthly premium
- No copays for services
- Moderate income -> MinnesotaCare (see income and asset limits above for amounts)
- Income below 200% of federal poverty guidelines
- Low monthly premium based on income and household size
- Small co-pays may apply
If you’re pregnant
You’re more likely to qualify for Medical Assistance
- Medical Assistance has higher income limits during pregnancy
- Coverage may include 12 months of postpartum care
If you’re a child under 18
You’re more likely to qualify for Medical Assistance
- Higher income limits for kids
- No monthly premium
- If income is above Medical Assistance limits, children may qualify for MinnesotaCare
